NUS Dance Blast!’s Shut Up And Dance (SUAD) is a biennial dance festival that spans 2 days this year. This year’s theme, JIWA, meaning “soul” or “spirit” in Indonesian and Malay, celebrates the passion, energy and emotions that lie at the heart of dance. This year’s SUAD production brings together dancers from NUS-based and external dance clubs for a vibrant showcase of movement, creativity and collaboration. With an exciting line-up of collaborative performances, a special Guest Item and a MegaBlast Item featuring the strength and energy of NUS Dance Blast!. Encapsulating the spirit of JIWA, this production invites you to experience the infectious energy and passion of dancers coming together as one. Be ready for an evening of movement, connection and celebration as we showcase the many souls that make up Singapore’s dance community. Artist and Key Creative Biographies Founded in 2001, NUS Dance Blast! is one of the largest collegiate dance clubs in Singapore with over 90 active members and a large alumni base. Based in street dance and open choreography, Blast! seeks to continuously provide opportunities for members to discover themselves as performers, creators and leaders. Artistic Director: Ahmad Kamil is NUS Dance Blast!’s Principal Tutor and a distinguished Singaporean art maker whose work across choreography, performance, education, and direction has contributed to the evolution of the local dance scene. Globally, he is a member of the Project Home collective. Kamil is also the founder of saya. (@sayasaye_) — a movement collective, education platform, and performance company dedicated to embedding street dance into sophisticated, innovative, yet relatable works. Guest Choreographer: Ocean Wong is a Hong Kong–based freestyle dancer, choreographer, and creative leader. Specialising in hip-hop, house, and street dance, he is the director of CHESTROLL HK, an award-winning all-styles crew celebrated for its originality and versatility. Ocean is also a member of Project Home. Since its founding, CHESTROLL HK has achieved international recognition, winning World of Dance Hong Kong 2023 and Haru Dance Competition Korea 2024. Dedicated to advancing street dance culture, Ocean continues to inspire growth, creativity, and cultural storytelling through movement, performance, and education.
